Emerald City

Emerald CityWith the month of May swiftly underway, lets checkout all the beauty that comes with it.  May not only brings this beautiful sunshine but it also brings its stunning birthstone, the Emerald.  Vivid green in colour  and unmistakable for any other gem, the Emerald is considered one of the top three precious gemstones of all time.

These three jewellery pieces to the left are just a sample of the styles that bring these great Emeralds to life.  Often paired with colorless diamonds to enhance and compliment, you can find Emeralds most commonly in rings, pendants, and earrings.  While you will sometimes see Emeralds set in bracelets, this pairing is often not typical as Emeralds are very soft in nature.  The possibility of chipping or breaking an Emerald is much higher than with any other gemstone, so for this reason, they are typically set into pieces that won’t be subjected to very much wear and tear.

Another tidbit of information about this lovely gemstone, is the Emeralds special clarity characteristics.  It is extremely rare to find an Emerald free of inclusions and if you do, it will cost a pretty penny!  Because of this, it is acceptable for Emeralds to have eye visible inclusions and still be considered high quality.

Any way you look at it, the colour of the Emerald is what brings it so much attention.  Known as a symbol for harmony, love of nature and simple joie de vivre, the fierce green colour will draw you in and make you forever an admirer.

Linear Love

Linear LoveAt last, a little attention to all those men out there looking for the perfect band to show their commitment.  Or, perhaps more appropriate, a post for all the bride-to-be’s looking to give their men some direction?!  In any event, I thought it was time to show our male clientele some love and share some stand out options in our men’s wedding band selection.

Gone are the days where you would only find a handful of options for mens wedding bands.  As expressing individual style through jewellery is becoming increasingly more important for men, so is the importance of offering a wide selection of bands for them to choose.  These three bands are only a glimpse of what we have to offer but I chose them because they each have a commonality and popular design element to them.

Linear angles, hard edges, and stainless steel finishes are all main features among these three white gold bands.  Each with their own pattern but all evoking the same masculine yet unique feel.  The stainless steel finish that has been applied tones down the shine and makes sure no one feels flashy.  For the contemporary man wanting something a little edgy but still a bit classic, the linear love these bands are giving are definitely worth a try.

*all bands are available in 10k, 14k, and 18k yellow or white gold, as well as 19k white gold and Platinum.  bands are custom ordered for each individuals finger size, so as not to break the pattern.  order time is approximately 3 weeks.

Now and For Always

Anniversary CollageThis next post is inspired by a clients search for the perfect milestone gift.  With a 50th birthday AND a 25th anniversary on the horizon, she is looking for the perfect way to celebrate and the perfect keepsake to capture the moment.  When asked of my opinion for what to choose, a diamond eternity band was first on my list.  And these four rings are definitely my favorite.

Top left is the classic, quintessential, shared claw set diamond eternity band.  Its simple design allows you to wear it alone or pair it with another.  Each diamond is held by two claws on each side, which are then shared by the diamond next to it (hence the name!).  This feature minimizes the amount of metal that is shown so all you see is diamond, diamond, diamond.

Top right is the dazzling, honey comb pave, diamond eternity band.  Its design is also simple in nature but its sparkle is out of this world.  The round brilliant cut diamonds are honey comb, pave set across a tiffany shaped band.  This means each row of diamonds is staggered with the next, just as you would see in a real live honeycomb.  This special way of setting plays tricks on the eye as you cannot see where one row starts and the other begins.  Resulting in a mass amount of brilliance and a mass amount of flair.

Bottom left is another example of honey comb pave but this one is created across a flat exterior.  It still has the flash and brilliance as the one above but the flat exterior adds a bit more comfort on the hand and a bit more of a contemporary feel.  It also is a modified eternity band, meaning the diamonds are set only 75% of the way around.  This allows for easy sizing and is perfect for the girl who is a little harder on her pieces.

Last but not least, bottom right is the antique styled, pave set, diamond eternity band.  There are more design elements in this beauty as you can see.  A little feminine flare through the center with an open, filigree design.  This gives the band a generous width to the hand and a little something special.  The diamonds are also framed by miligrain detailing, a feature you see most in rings of the past.  It’s a unique spin on a classic piece and one to not be missed.

All in all, whichever gift you choose, you will have a beautiful reminder of the love, laughter, and happiness that you share now and for always.

In the Rough

In the RoughThis is the beautiful pendant I’ve been waiting forever for.  I originally picked it out for my birthday that has since passed, and then hinted for it for Mother’s Day, and then tried again for my push present.  All occasions I have been lucky and received amazingly thoughtful gifts that I’ve loved, but no where was this to be found!  I will try again for Christmas 🙂

Like my last blogged piece, Tickled Pink, this pendant is from my favorite New York supplier.  I was browsing through their catalogue and noticed the unique style of the center stone.  A rarely seen, gem in the rough, a Ruby no less!  Its out-of-round shape and unpolished face is the perfect juxtaposition with the diamond halo that surrounds it.  It is all held together and supported by a delicate rose gold frame and a lovely, rose gold, rolo link chain.

I can imagine it as my signature piece, always around my neck, day and night.  Paired with my boys diamond initial pendants (see Baby Love) and sometimes on its own.  It’s a ruby in the rough and a dream in my heart.  Fingers crossed!

Infinite Possibilities

Here is another reason to love the work we do at Minichiello’s.  Our goldsmiths can create just about anything under the sun leaving our loyal clientele with infinite possibilities.  And speaking of infinite, this engagement ring design encompasses the symbol perfectly.  The delicate shoulders of the ring are weaved into an infinity design and encrusted with sparkling round brilliant cut diamonds.  It’s a little of everything:  feminine, antique inspired, classic and unique.  The center Diamond is held gently by a four claw basket setting with claws that are safe but subtle to the design.  To see beautiful designs like this and get inspiration from others, come by and see us today!
